What
is psychotherapy? How can it help?
|
|
The
terms 'counselling' and 'psychotherapy' are often used interchangeably
to refer to the psychotherapeutic process. However, psychotherapy
can provide you with a means to explore your personal and life issues
in greater depth - through the use of a variety of psychotherapeutic
methods and the empathic and responsive assistance of a qualified
and experienced therapist.
As in the counselling process, the relationship between the therapist
and the client is a professional one based on respect, honesty,
sensitivity and responsibility. During the psychotherapy process,
the therapist aims to assist you to increase self-awareness and
move out of patterns of experiential avoidance, to deepen understanding
of your relationships, gain new perspectives about life experiences,
restore balance and strengthen your sense of connection with deeper
aspects of self - all of which can enhance meaning and purpose in
life.
